Ward 90 developments
CRAIGHALL PARK – A tour with Ward 90 councillor Martin Williams highlighted some of the developments in issues raised by residents on problematic areas.
Some notable developments took place in Craighall Park in the past week. Taking raised issues from residents as well as those found during his own inspection, Ward 90 councillor Martin Williams escalated the issues to the relevant departments.
City Power re-cabled the whole intersection of Jan Smuts, Buckingham and Burnside avenues in Craighall Park. The intersection had been problematic even before load-shedding began. Although a time-frame could not be given, Williams said the signals engineer would come and reset the timing in a way that would make the lights on Jan Smuts/Buckingham coincide with the lights on Jan Smuts/Burnside so that if people driving from that side see green, they see green all the way. Williams said once all the work was done, they would deal with repainting the road-markings through the Johannesburg Roads Agency (JRA).
The branches that were previously blocking the traffic lights as one comes from Buckingham Avenue towards Jan Smuts were cut by a contractor from City Power whose team also replaced the bent pole previously leaning into the view of the traffic light.
The councillor acknowledged that the traffic sign is much more visible.
“However, if one stands across the Valley Centre and looks up Jan Smuts, the big branches obscure the lights. I have asked City Parks to do that, but if they don’t have the budget, I have asked for permission for residents to help remove the branches,” said Williams.
Up the road in Lancaster Avenue, the JRA completed the deep patching of the road. On the corner of Athole and Jan Smuts avenues, Williams logged a storm water drain, with potential to cause flooding, with the JRA.
“Greater visibility, traffic lights working, all the correct markings and I am sure the traffic flow this side will be mastered,” Williams said.
