Over R10 000 raised for CHOC at the tribute concert for Chris Phillips

CRAIGHALL PARK – Each show was packed with friends, family and past actors who attended to celebrate life.

Amateur dramatics group, The Players, and rock/blues band, The Tone Junkies, performed a two-day-only show in memory of fellow actor and friend Christopher John Phillips.

It was held at the St Martin de Porres Church in Craighall Park, which is the original home of The Players, and saw a packed audience of friends, family and fellow actors on both days (23 and 24 February).

Wendy Heather, a palliative nurse, who helped the Phillips family through the last few months of his life, shared valuable insight with some guests on the need to cherish life but accept death.

The show itself was filled with skits from previous plays that showcased Chris’s adoration of slapstick comedy, delightful duets such as Disney’s Aladdin, A Whole New World, to a quintessential ‘drinking song’ and of course an ode to a recent play of theirs, HMS Dumbledore . The final performance was by Gareth’s band, The Tone Junkies, who rocked out in memory of a man, who is and will be sorely missed.

As ever the charitable man Chris was, tickets, tuckshop sales and raffles income was collected and donated to CHOC with a total of R10 700.
