Friendly assistance and warmth displayed at HospiceWits Parkhurst

PARKHURST – Support the shop funding the work of Hospice Wits by donating your pre-loved items or browsing their wide selection of goods.

The HospiceWits Legacy Shop on 6th Street, Parkhurst, is full of warmth and cheer thanks to the commitment shown by store manager Vicki Moorer.

She is motivated to serve people from all financial positions through this character-filled store supporting the work with the terminally ill patients at Hospice Wits.

The store was launched in 2016 and became self-supporting within six months thanks to the generous support of the community.

Moorer said she developed an interest in Hospice Wits after her godmother and mother’s best friend were cared for by Hospice. Her grandfather also volunteered regularly at the Orange Grove hospice shop, fuelling her interest in the non-profit organisation. Having made her own range of creative jewellery and artwork which she supplied to the branch at Orange Grove, Moorer was contacted by management to launch the new Parkhurst store in 2016.

“I was excited to be part of the new shop designed to be in line with English charity shops selling pre-loved goods in a clean, welcoming space,” said Moorer.

“I strongly believe in what Hospice does. People generally shy away from death but Hospice is able to tackle it head-on and make the process comfortable and full of dignity.

“I appreciate every donation that comes into this store and love hearing the stories that come with each item… I love helping donors feel comfortable when it’s often quite tough to part with their belongings. I also love that people can come here and call me Aunty Vee and find the perfect item in our store.”

Community members applaud Moorer for her passion and friendliness to all who visit the store.

Volunteer Kevin Cheary said, “This shop wouldn’t be what it is without Vicki. She’s so enthusiastic and makes anyone who comes through the door feel special.”
