Parkview police arrest alleged cell phone snatcher

PARKVIEW – Police successfully arrested a suspect on charges of common robbery on 11 February.


A 29-year-old man was arrested in Kempton Park following the theft of a cell phone on the corner of Tyrone Avenue and Ennis Road in Parkview.

The spokesperson for the Parkview Police Station Captain Tintswalo Sibeko said a case of common robbery was opened at the station on 6 February.

“The complainant was at a restaurant sitting at a table outside. She was busy with her cell phone when an unknown suspect grabbed her cell phone and also tried to remove the ring from her finger. The woman closed her hand and started screaming for help,” said Sibeko.

“The suspect then took the victim’s cell phone, ran and got into a white Toyota Corolla and drove off.”

Sibeko said the docket was allocated to Parkview detectives Sergeant Tshifhiwa Muluvhu, Constable Mmeli Mzolo and Constable Itani Nemukangeni for investigation.

“The three investigating officers used their skills and managed to trace and arrest the suspect in Kempton Park on 11 February.”

The station commander at the Parkview police Colonel Theledi Gopano would like to commend the members for their commitment and dedication to their duties.

The suspect appeared in the Hillbrow Magistrates’ Court on 13 February to answer to charges of common robbery.
