Ability activist visits Parktown Boys’ for the second time

PARKTOWN – Ability activist, Michaela Mycroft visited Parktown Boys' High School for the second time to provide an update on the Chaeli Campaign.

Parktown Boys’ High School was for the second time graced by the presence of South African ability activist Michaela Mycroft and her mother, Zelda Mycroft.

The duo came all the way from Cape Town and addressed everyone at a special assembly held in the school. Their aim was to provide an update on the Chaeli Campaign and this they did in a fun and interactive manner which captivated the boys, special guests and staff.

Michaela has summited Mount Kilimanjaro, been involved in many outreach programmes specifically in empowering children and has won the International Children’s Peace Prize in 2011. The school has had a number of campaign ambassadors in the school, championed by head boy, Dean Nicholas Fin.

“Match your ambition with your ethics, love who you are and what you do,” Fin said addressing the school.

Fin’s ambition is to grow true leaders in Chaeli’s campaign in skills and self-worth along with his fellow campaigners facilitated by teacher Jarred de Jong.

Parktown Boys’ talented school band joined the assembly playing especially for Michaela and guests.

Headmaster at the school Malcolm Williams said, “We salute the work of this young lady and her campaign ambassadors nationwide.”

Michaela was interactive with the boys and taught them the skill of standing like a superhero. “Remember your superhero pose when faced with challenging situations.”

A workshop after assembly was well supported with new additions to the Chaeli Campaign group.

There is a pay-it-forward campaign currently involving over 120 South Africans. This entails a workshop once a month based on leadership abilities and to recognise one’s inner strength as well as a year’s diploma course where boys run their own campaign thereafter.

Michaela left for Bloemfontein to address another campaign. The school’s water polo first team will be playing in Bloemfontein and ensured Michaela and Zelda had Parktown Boys’ supporter gear and looked forward to their support in Bloemfontein.
