Parents urged to finalise the admissions process for their children

JOBURG – Parents who have not completed their child's admissions process are urged to do so by 18 January.

The Gauteng Department of Education has urged all parents to confirm their child’s placement at a school by midday on 18 January or have their position forfeited.

In total, the department received over 320 000 applications for Grade 1 and Grade 8 learners with 37 836 of those applications being late. Last week, Gauteng Education MEC Panyaza Lesufi urged parents to submit the required documents to finalise placements. Furthermore, parents are advised to submit the required documents (birth certificate, ID copies, proof of address etc) immediately after placement.

A statement released by the department said that it has complied with its obligation to ensure that every child in Gauteng has been offered a space at a school. Parents are encouraged to their children to the school that their child has been allocated.

There are help desks at the head office and district offices which are able to help parents with queries. For more details contact 080 000 0789 or admissions.hotline@gauteng.gov.za
