Parkview police arrest four suspects believed to be involved in airport follow home robberies

PARKTOWN NORTH – The suspects are thought to be connected to a number of other airport follow home robberies.

Parkview police arrested four suspects believed to be linked to a number of incidents of people being followed home from the airport and robbed recently.

Interim spokesperson for the Parkview Police Lieutenant Colonel Lesetja Ledwaba explained that a follow home incident was reported at the Parkview Police Station on 11 January.

“A man was picked up from the airport by an [app based taxi] on 9 January and brought to his home in Parktown North. Men came out and demanded all his possessions. He fought with the one suspect and was injured,” said Ledwaba.

Within a few hours of reporting the case, the complainant received a message saying that his passport had been found in Hillbrow. After following leads, police were able to arrest the four suspects between the ages of 25 and 45 who they suspect have been involved in a number of similar incidents using the same modus operandi.

Parkview police recovered five rounds of ammunition, a revolver, a passport, suitcases, clothing and a Lenovo notebook.

“The police went the extra mile to arrest these suspects. They did not sleep the night this was reported until they had recovered everything. We still have a few extra items thought to be from other similar incidents at the station. We encourage anyone with similar incidents to report them to the station,” said Ledwaba.

He further advised residents who will be driving home from the airport late at night to inform their local security company so that they can prevent such incidents from reoccurring.
