Festive spirit at the South African Police Service

MELROSE – Members of the Johannesburg East Cluster police stations gathered at the Waverly Sports Fields to have their early Christmas Carols before gearing up to deal with crime during the festive season ahead.

The festive season is almost here and members of the South African Police Service have taken some time out to celebrate.

With the task of keeping the country safe at a time when the crime rate seems to increase drawing near, the police officers from the Johannesburg East Cluster decided to have their Christmas Carols a little earlier. The event which was filled with singing, sermons and festive wishes, took place at the Waverly Sports Club in Melrose.

Reverend Captain Lilana Kasper kicked off the event with an opening prayer and verse.

“We’re gathering for a very joyous occasion as we come together to celebrate. It has been a long journey where we have lost our members one after the other, however, those of us who are still alive must be thankful for the gift of life,” said Kasper.

Jeppe Station Commander, Brigadier Wiseman Mthembu gave a welcoming speech which quoted some verses from the scripture on the prophecy about the birth of the Messiah.

Hillbrow Station Commander, Brigadier Stanley Nevhuhulwi spoke on behalf of the acting Joburg East Cluster Commander. Nevhuhulwi also emphasised the theme of gratitude for the gift of life and said that there was a reason why God had allowed that everyone could celebrate together on the day.

His words were strengthened by a sermonette from Reverend Musa Shihambe from the Jeppe Police Station. He read from the Bible, book of Titus chapter 2, verse 11 which said, “For the grace of God that brings salvation has appeared to all men.”

Regarding the Christmas Day itself, Shihambe said, “God revealed Himself as Father on Christmas Day. I wish you and your loved ones abundant Christmas blessings on this very special day, the day God’s saving grace appeared.”
