Parkview Residents Association’s AGM addresses safety and future projects

PARKTOWN – A safer residential area was emphasised at the AGM and residents were urged to join SafeParkview. and the ward councillor outlined some future projects.

An evening set aside to talk about community issues and updates saw residents in and around Parkview make their way to Parktown High School for Girls for the Parkview Residents Association’s AGM.

Executive committee member of the association Vicky Drinkwater shed some light on SafeParkview, a non-profit company whose 865 members are Parkview residents and owners of shops and businesses (incorporating Greenside East).

She said the company’s fundamental basis was to spend private security money effectively by preventing crime rather than reacting to it.

“Our proactive deployment consists of three permanent vehicles with two guards per car,” she added.

“These vehicles are tracked by GPS and their activities are reported on a monthly basis to the management team.” She said they provided regular updates on crime incidents and trends and encouraged residents to become members of SafeParkview.

Ward 87 councillor, Bridget Steer gave an overview of the ward and encouraged residents to check their meter readings for any irregularities. She gave an outline of upcoming projects which included the Greenside water upgrade, Sandton/Alex water upgrade, Johannesburg Roads Agency projects, and a park and ride facility for Greenside.

“We also plan on housing and Joshco projects to provide affordable housing for workers in the ward so that they don’t have to travel far,” said Steer.
