Rosebank police arrest 3 suspects

ROSEBANK – Police have arrested three suspects caught in possession of an unlicensed firearm and housebreaking implements.

Rosebank police were pleased to arrest three suspects believed to be linked to the spate of armed robberies taking place in the Rosebank policing precinct recently.

The spokesperson for the Rosebank Police Station Sergeant Bonginkosi Mdletshe said, “Members of the crime prevention unit were doing regular patrols on Oxford Road travelling in a southerly direction on 20 August when they spotted a suspicious silver grey VW Jetta with three males inside travelling in the same direction.

“When the men realised that the police were on their tail, they immediately turned right onto Baker Street. Members of the crime prevention unit ordered them to stop and the vehicle was searched.”

Police recovered one pistol, two green overalls, ammunition, three balaclavas, three pairs of gloves and a four-pound hammer. The police immediately arrested the suspects.

“All three were charged with possession of an unlicensed firearm and housebreaking implements,” he said.

Mdletshe added that the suspects, two of whom are in their 40s and the third in his 20s, are all repeat offenders of serious crimes.

“We are trying to link the suspects with other common robberies and armed robberies in our policing precinct.”

The men were set to appear in the Johannesburg Magistrates’ Court on 22 August.
