Cleaning up the park
PARKVIEW – The City of Johannesburg decided to focus on Region B's Zoo Lake precinct and invited all municipal utilities to participate in a multi-disciplinary effort to make a big difference in the area.

Municipal utilities led by example in the A Re Sebetseng clean-up campaign at Zoo Lake and parts of the zoo.
Region B representatives including Ward 117 councillor, Tim Truluck, MMCs and the Department of Health were present to play their part in cleaning up.

Region B regional director Mohau Ntheli addressed the attendees and said they had identified areas along Lower Park Drive, Jan Smuts Avenue and the park which needed cleaning up. City Power‘s Richard Miyambu was also present and said they would repair light fittings in the park.
“Vandalism does take place and people damage the equipment, however, we are here to fix that today,” he said.

The Social Development team was also in attendance and they identified displaced people who sleep in the park. Lerato Legobane, Social Development regional manager said,
“We came to advise the identified displaced people about shelters and available rehabilitation programmes within the department. We have also shared information about substance abuse and treatment sites at Westbury Clinic.”

A mobile clinic was also set up by the Department of Health. Region B Clinics manager, Kuku Dube said, “We screen people for TB, BP [blood pressure] and blood sugar, then if any abnormalities are found we refer them to the clinics. We also supply them with Information Education and Communication material.”
