#ICYMI: Former assistant water polo coach pleads guilty to 144 counts of sexual assault

PARKTOWN – Collan Rex has pleaded guilty to 144 charges of sexual assault on schoolboys.

The former assistant water polo coach at Parktown Boys’ High School Collan Rex has pleaded guilty to committing sexual acts on schoolboys at the school, according to IOL.
The article states that Rex pleaded guilty to 144 counts of sexual assault on 12 schoolboys between the ages of 13 and 16 between 2015 and 2016.

The 22-year-old who today appeared in the Gauteng South Court, admitted to acts of grabbing and squeezing boys’ genitals as well as rubbing his penis against several boys while they were fully clothed.
According to the article, Rex is also facing an additional 183 charges including attempted murder, rape, sexual grooming and exposing minors to pornography. There are 11 complainants and Rex pleaded not guilty to the 183 charges.

The article states that the matter has been postponed to next week, where prosecutor Advocate Arveena Persad said the State would lead its first witnesses.
The Rosebank Killarney Gazette stated in a previous report that the accused was arrested in November last year when he was captured on CCTV footage allegedly fondling a youngster.
The former principal of the school, Kevin Stippel and the chairman of the school’s governing body, Nicholas Greyling were called in to review the footage.

“The police were contacted and the perpetrator was arrested,” said Greyling, who added that the Gauteng Department of Education ) was contacted and had been involved throughout the process
“He has since been charged with sexual abuse of minors and is awaiting trial. The school banned him from the property pending a hearing but he resigned with immediate effect.”
