Two men bust for drug possession

ROSEBANK – Two men have been bust for possession of drugs.

Rosebank Police Station officers arrested two men aged 34 and 40 for possession of drugs on 25 June at Keyes Avenue, in Rosebank.

The first suspect was caught with 15individually wrapped white paper packages which contained cocaine. This also included 97 individual small plastic bags containing nyaope.

The second suspect was bust with 50 small bags of nyaope and a bag containing R300 in cash.

Previously, Rosebank Police Station spokesperson Sergeant Bongi Mdletshe had told Rosebank Killarney Gazette that Keyes Avenue has become a hotspot for drug dealers.

“This confirms the rumours of drug use on Keyes Avenue. So both of the powders were taken to a forensic lab to establish exactly what type of drugs they were in possession of. According to our books, the one was nyaope and the other was cocaine,” said Mdletshe.

The spokesperson has confirmed that Rosebank police now have to present a thorough statement detailing the type of drugs the suspects were in possession of.

“Police officers, the K-9 Unit and crime intelligence joined forces on this day to nab the dealers. Furthermore, operations of this nature are still going to be initiated. We will make sure that we root out this issue of drugs on Keyes Avenue,” he explained.

The street value of the drugs is between R5 000 and R10 000. The two suspects are in custody after having been denied bail. Their next appearance will follow once police have gathered more information and compiled the statement.
