Domestic workers tied up at gunpoint in Parktown North

PARKTOWN NORTH – A house robbery took place in broad daylight in Parktown North.

A couple and two males robbed two domestic workers and ransacked the house in Parktown North earlier this month.

The robbery occurred at about 1.20pm when someone rang the bell at the main gate. One of the domestic workers went to the gate to see who it was. After a few minutes, the helper who was left in the house saw her colleague with a white couple and opened the back door to check what was happening.

The couple alleged that they had lost their toy aeroplane in the yard and wanted to look for it as it was bought on that day.

The male suspect had a remote control in his hand pretending to look for the toy and took out a firearm and pointed it at the domestic workers.

The domestic workers were instructed to keep quiet and go inside the house.

The couple was joined by two other males who tied up the domestic workers with a cable and started ransacking the house. The four suspects managed to steal jewellery, a laptop, a surveillance hard drive and cell phones.

Luckily, no one was injured and no shots were fired.

Parkview Police Station spokesperson Captain Tintswalo Sibeko said, “The residents are being warned to inform their helpers not to open the gates to strangers and if they suspect anything they must contact Parkview police.”

The Parkview Police Station can be called on 011 067 6000.
