UPDATE: Meetings at #CharlotteMaxeke sees a positive outcome

PARKTOWN – A follow-up special chamber meeting will be held on Friday, 8 May.

Following a special chamber meeting with the Department of Health, union leaders and Charlotte Maxeke Academic Hospital management, a mutual agreement was reached between parties.

The meeting was held on 5 June where the health department agreed that the performance management and development system bonuses will be paid to the employees’ accounts.

The regional chairperson of the National Union of Public Service and Allied Workers Sibusiso Nkana confirmed that there is still tension at the health institution.

“We do give the employees the updates from the meetings, so they are currently back at work. We have arranged that we receive the money within at least seven days,” said Nkana.

He also confirmed that there is still tension and that the police are always present. The next special chamber meeting will be held on 8 June, where an official date will be given as to when the money will be released to the employees.

This follows after a major protest emerged at Charlotte Maxeke Hospital on 31 May over bonuses and salary increases, where the hospital was trashed with debris.

Here’s a video that was taken on the day, 31 May, when the strike took a chaotic turn:

This is a developing story. More updates will follow.
