A cleaner Hughwyndam Park thanks to Aresebetseng

DUNKELD – Aresebetseng in Hughwyndam Park had residents in cooperative spirit as they cleaned their park.

Residents of Ward 90 volunteered to take part in the A Re Sebetseng clean-up initiative which focused on Hugh Wyndham Park.

Residents scoured the park for litter and as the day progressed more volunteers joined in. The ward’s councillor Martin Williams said, “City authorities cannot do much without the support of community members and this is what such projects enhance.”

Fran Swart, committee chairperson for the park said, “A few years ago people used to come here with their picnic baskets and have family time, therefore we are trying to revive that morale by making people remember what a beautiful park this is.”

Swart added that due to financial constraints the City was unable to manage the park properly so residents had adopted the green space from the city council. The Craighall Ratepayers Association provides funds for the upkeep of the park and donations from residents are also used for this purpose.

More funds will be needed as the committee has plans to refurbish the park’s play area, put up a fence and install outdoor gym equipment. They also want to purchase a tractor and mowers.
