Quality Kes fest draws to a close

HOUGHTON – Players have a ball on final day of the Kes Easter Festival.

Day three of the Kes Easter Festival might have had gloomier weather than the first two days, but the sporting action was as exciting as ever at King Edward VII School today, 2 April.

In order to make sure everyone had their sporting fill before going home after the Easter weekend, there were six senior rugby, 12 junior rugby and six senior hockey games played from morning until late afternoon, under threatening skies, on the last day of the festival.

Kes managed to finish on a high in the hockey division, with a 2–0 win over Paarl Boys’ High School. It was the home hockey team’s third win in the festival. They only lost one game, and drew one.

On the rugby side, the final day also saw Jeppe High School for boys get one over Hudson Park High School, who had impressed many with their skillful and never-say-die rugby. The game ended 36–12, which was a big surprise to many who had seen Hudson Park win their other two games in the festival.

King Edward’s headmaster, David Lovatt said, “The essence of our festival is to provide the players with the opportunity to showcase their skills, without the hindrance of the typical pressures that so often play out in the normal league season.”
