Rosebank Primary sees penultimate 2018 KFC Mini Cricket fanfair

ROSEBANK – The KFC Mini Cricket Festival reached its apex with hundreds of excited future cricketers in tow at Rosebank Primary School.

The KFC Mini-Cricket Area Festival held at Rosebank Primary School drew the curtain on an exciting 2018 mini cricket season for the hundreds of excited children who took part in it.

KFC mini cricket provincial coordinator at the Gauteng Cricket Board, Gary Moos, spoke volumes of the benefit of the sport for the kids as well as what it means for the future of cricket in the country. He said the number of schools that participated is an indication of how far the programme has come since its inception.

“This is the most successful programme running of any sporting code. It sets the foundation for the kids in building them as future Proteas. I think if we can sustain the talented kids within this programme, South African cricket [will be] in a good space,” said Moos, who added that parents were the main drivers of getting their children active.

“This programme is for the masses and obviously the parents are very excited. Their kids are the future Proteas and that’s normal for any parent. And for us to get all schools involved in all the areas, including smaller communities, is a bonus.”

Excited parent Bernard Kur, who had made his way to the school to watch his son enjoy a day out on the playing fields, said the festival was more than just about cricket development for children. “For me, it’s so proud to see people of different colours, races and creeds coming together with smiles on their faces.”

“As a dad, it makes me super proud to be a South African dad. Whatever my son wants to do, he should always succeed – but most importantly, he should just have fun.”
