Thieves steal car from covered parking at Rosebank Mall

ROSEBANK – Police are investigating the theft of a motor vehicle which was stolen in the covered parking at Rosebank Mall.

Rosebank Police appeal to anyone with information relating to the theft of a white Toyota Corolla Verso, which was stolen from the covered upper-level parking at Rosebank Mall, to come forward with any information.

Sergeant Bongi Mdlethse, spokesperson for the Rosebank police, said that a docket was opened and that an investigation into the case was in progress, although police had not come up with any leads. “We can confirm that a case of theft of a motor vehicle was opened with Rosebank police.

“The case is currently with the Vehicle Identification and Safeguarding (VIS) Unit, which deals with theft and hijacked vehicles. At the moment, the car is still out there. We are, however, requesting that anyone with information regarding this vehicle to come forward.”

Theodora Drummond, the owner of the stolen car, told Rosebank Killarney Gazette when the incident took place at around 3pm on 17 February, her daughter had used her car to drive to the Rosebank Mall to do shopping.

“My daughter was driving my Verso since her own car had a flat battery,” said Drummond. “She parked in the covered parking on the upper level, which she’d done before – right next to the lifts where there were lots of people.

“During that time, she waited for the lifts, where if she had turned around (since there were lots of other people waiting on the lift s as well), she would’ve probably seen the people who took my car.”

Despite numerous attempts by the Rosebank Killarney Gazette, the mall was unable to provide comment at the time of publication.
