New president takes the helm at Old Eds

HOUGHTON – Old Eds paves the way for continued success with new president to lead club.

The former president of the Old Edwardian Society in Houghton, Richard McEvoy, has handed the baton over after serving at the helm of the club for the past three years.

McEvoy made way for another stalwart of the club and former chairman of the Old Edwardian Athletics Club, Mark Mohring, who, among an array of things, harbours a strong passion for development. As a priority task, Mohring has his sights set on improving the club’s existing sporting facilities.

“The proposed redevelopment of the society’s grounds is going to be a huge challenge,” said Mohring. “We need to make the society self-sustainable and in so doing, try to attract new members to the club.”

McEvoy lauded Mohring’s leadership capabilities, saying he believes Mohring has the ability to make good on his election as the club’s new president. “I think Mark is more than capable of taking up the position. He shares my vision of being very involved and making sure that he’s got a much better handling [over] what is going on at the club and how it works.

“As chairman of the athletics section, he was very instrumental in improving both the field and the quality of the Old Eds Race, which is one of the biggest events that the society puts on.

“So Mark is very capable and likeable and is prepared to put his hands up and get them dirty; which I think as a president, is very important.”

Mohring’s term, which commenced in December, will run over three years when a president is elected.
