Be environmentally conscious this summer season

CRAIGHALL PARK – Johannesburg City Parks and Zoo campaign to ensure the delivery horticultural and conservation services in the City of Joburg over the summer season.

Rainstorms are often harsh and are accompanied by much thunder, lightning and occasional hail. This, in turn, leads to the excessive growth of grass, falling leaves and at times, snapping of trees.

In light of the effects of the weather changes and the peak summer season, Johannesburg City Parks and Zoo is working to ensure the delivery horticultural and conservation services in the City of Joburg. At least 52 accredited contractors have been brought on board to assist.

The spokesperson for Johannesburg City Parks and Zoo, Jenny Moodley, said residents ought to keep themselves in the loop on the conservation efforts by the entity. “We encourage Joburg residents to visit our website to view detailed weekly schedules,” said Moodley.

“We also have a 24-hour emergency team which is equipped to respond to complaints relating to fallen trees. Our priority is to ensure that there is no traffic congestion or interference with power lines. Branches and stumps will be removed in the second phase of the clean-up.”

Moodley hopes the measures that have been put in place will ensure that the City of Joburg is kept clean and well preserved. Residents, however, are urged to assist and play their part in an attempt to keep the city clean, by putting their weight behind the A Re Sebetseng (let’s work) campaign, recently launched by Joburg Executive Mayor, Herman Mashaba.

“The first City Of Joburg city-wide clean-up was hosted in September last year and was supported by councillors, ward committees and businesses across the city,” added Moodley.

“Plastic bags and gloves were distributed at walk-in centres, clinics and libraries as well as participating businesses and then collected later in the day to ensure that we have a cleaner city.

“Please assist in keeping our city clean by keeping your own sidewalk tidy and well maintained.”
