Students and teachers from King Edward School celebrate fantastic results

HOUGHTON ESTATE – The Class of 2017 obtained an incredible 266 distinctions.

 

The Class of 2017 from King Edward School (Kes) celebrated the release of their fantastic matric results on 5 January.

The school obtained a 99.5 per cent pass rate with just over 89 per cent of the boys achieving a bachelor’s pass, allowing them to study towards a university degree.

The 194 matrics also obtained an incredible total of 266 distinctions.

Maureen Reynolds, director of Grade 12 studies at Kes told the Rosebank Killarney Gazette that she was very happy with the results the boys had achieved. ” It was a tough year and we had our challenges but the boys have still managed to pass and do very well so from the perspective we’re very proud of what they’ve managed to achieve.”

Sixteen of the matriculants obtained five or more distinctions for their final exams.

On the day many excited matriculants huddle around each other at the school, Arthur Mouende, who obtained five distinctions said, “I really worked hard for it, the exam period was quite hectic but I pulled through. I tried to work consistently during class so it wasn’t really long hours of studying but more of working a bit extra throughout the year.”

Greggory Fisher who was also at the school to collect his certificate and obtained five distinctions, overcame incredible difficulty during his matric year but he added that he was proud of his results. “It was all about study, study, study, taking off leave and going to extra lessons after class. I’m very excited to be leaving but I’m definitely going to miss school.”

The school’s top achiever is Tiago Jardim who obtained eight distinctions, while four other matriculants received seven distinctions – Taahir Makda, Corbyn Buziek, Tiago Dos Santos and Matthew Sebesta.
