Matriculants and teachers from Roedean School celebrate fantastic results

HOUGHTON – Roedean's 84 matrics managed to obtain 309 distinctions.

Matriculants and teachers from Roedean are celebrating their 100 per cent pass rate for the class of 2017 with an incredible 309 distinctions.
The 84 matriculants all obtained a bachelors pass, which allows for university entrance, and twelve of the girls were ranked in the top one per cent of the Independent Examination Board (IEB).
Roedean headmaster Murray Thomas told the Rosebank Killarney Gazette that he was incredibly happy with the results achieved.

“It’s a day of huge celebration for the girls and the staff. What’s interesting about this particular group is that on a journey of 12 years I think they peaked at the right time.”

Thomas added that Roedean strives to help mould confident, competent and independent women. “Roedean women are strong and delightful and can stand their own in any space, we feel, so it’s been a fantastic year.”

Sara Steedley, who achieved three distinctions said she was pleasantly surprised with her results. Sara, who will be studying in the United States will study either public health or gender studies.

“Roedean has been really great, I have absolutely no regrets about coming here, I’ve been to several schools and this has been the best education by far,” said Sara.
Another top achiever from Roedean, Sinead Reddy, who achieved five distinctions said she was happy with the majority of her results. Sinead, who prepared for her exams by joining a study group with matrics from various other schools, said the preparation had been hectic but it was the best possible way to study for exams.

Sinead also hopes to study in the United States, however, she might study politics, philosophy and economics at the University of Witwatersrand.
