Moloi and Kekana chosen as Absa Premiership Coach and Player of the Month
PARKTOWN – Chippa United coach Tebogo Moloi and Mamelodi Sundowns captain Hlompo Kekana win the Absa Premiership November Coach and Player of the Month awards, respectively.
Chippa United coach Tebogo Moloi and Mamelodi Sundowns captain Hlompo Kekana were awarded the Absa Premiership November Coach and Player of the Month, respectively.
The Absa Premiership monthly recognition award on 11 December at the Premier Soccer League offices in Parktown was a first for Moloi, who is a former Orlando Pirates player. Judges reached a unanimous decision in bestowing the award on him, saying they were impressed with how he had turned the fortunes around at Chippa United without making any radical changes in the club’s style of play.
He was also commended in terms of the manner in which he had taken a team that was used to controlling possession and adding an offensive dimension to it. During the block of fixtures played from 1 to 30 November, Moloi’s outfit picked up five points in the club’s three games.
Moloi guided his side to an impressive away win over reigning Absa Premiership champion outfit, Bidvest Wits, followed by two draws against Free States Stars and Sundowns.
Kekana, who is no stranger to the awards, won the individual player’s award for the first time in the 2017/18 Absa Premiership season. He was voted Player of the Month owing to his penchant for stabilising a Sundowns side that has been at sixes and sevens since the start of the campaign.
Kekana was seen as having been effective in front of goal for the Brazilians, scoring two goals in November, and impressing with his defensive work rate, leadership qualities and fighting spirit.
The winners were selected by a panel of judges made up of members of the broadcast media and football analysts.
