Man arrested for housebreaking and theft in Parkview sentenced to six years

PARKVIEW – A man arrested on 11 July has been sentenced to six years in prison for housebreaking, theft and possession of stolen property.

A man arrested in July has been sentenced to six years in prison for housebreaking, theft and possession of stolen property.

Detective Constable Mmeli Mzolo investigated the case docket and managed to secure a sentence based on the evidence collected.

The Parkview Police received a complaint on 11 July about a housebreaking that was taking place at Kerry Road in Parkview. It was alleged that when the homeowner returned home she went to her bedroom and was surprised to find a man coming out of her dressing room.

“The complainant asked the suspect what he was doing in her house and he said that he was waiting for his friends. The complainant then pressed the panic button,” said Captain Tintswalo Sibeko, spokesperson for the Parkview Police Station.

The suspect then ran towards the bathroom and jumped through the window and over the wall. The complainant noticed that her purse, 200 Euros, an iPad and jewellery were missing.

“When the police arrived at the scene the complainant explained what happened and she also mentioned that the iPad showed that it was in Yeoville.”

Sibeko added that Constable Ngwako Mathlathla, Constable Magezi Maluleke, Constable Collen Mashaba together with 24/7 security officers followed the information that was gathered and traced the suspect to a tavern in Yeoville.

However, when the suspect saw the police he took out a firearm but was shot in the leg before he could fire his weapon. The suspect was found with the iPad and jewellery in his possession and his firearm was recovered.

He was treated at the Charlotte Maxeke Johannesburg Academic Hospital while under police guard and later appeared at the Johannesburg Magistrates’ Court.

The station commander of Parkview Police Station, Colonel Theledi Gopane welcomed the sentence and emphasised that all crimes reported within the Parkview precinct will be investigated to ensure the community stays safe.
