Couple allegedly robbed during movie

ROSEBANK – It is alleged a group of men entered the theatre and stole the couples belongings during the movie.

Police are investigating a robbery after a couple alleged they were targeted by robbers while watching a movie at The Zone @ Rosebank.

According to a Facebook post by Giulietta Mazza she and her fiancé, Darren Craig, were the only two people in the movie theatre when a group of men entered the theatre and waited about 20 minutes before surrounding the couple and demanding their possessions.

“Ster-Kinekor didn’t have anyone checking tickets, and I have now been shown that we were the only two people meant to be in the movie last night. The rest were all part of one gang,” said Mazza on Facebook.
“We were told to sit down or die.”

According to Sergeant Bongi Mdletshe, the spokesperson for the Rosebank Police Station, a case of common robbery has been opened and they will continue to work with Ster-Kinekor on the matter.

Mdletshe added that they are looking for a group of five men, three of whom acted as lookouts while the other two searched through the couple’s belongings.

A statement issued by Ster-Kinekor said, “We are investigating the incident both internally and with the help of local authorities, and have set up a meeting with the affected customer.”

Despite reports that the couple was robbed by a group of men, Ster-Kinekor has said that its investigation so far had found that it was an individual who stole the couple’s belongings.

“The safety of our customers and staff remains paramount, and the matter is being investigated following established guidelines as set down by the company.”

Craig responded to the statement made by Ster-Kinekor, accusing the company of victimising the couple further. “It’s so sad that the company can’t accept that in a room of seven people, only two were paying customers. One makes off with a cellphone and another follows him out of the emergency exit, that’s already two men. Now add the three unaccounted for men sitting in the stalls and tell me there was only one perpetrator?”

Marketing manager for The Zone @ Rosebank, Kelsey Redelinghuys, has confirmed that the mall was providing support to the situation.
