WATCH: DA leads march to the Gupta compound in Saxonwold
SAXONWOLD – The Democratic Alliance carried out their march to the Gupta compound despite the family's threats.
Update, 4pm
The Democratic Alliance led a march to the Gupta compound in Saxonwold on 5 October to protest against alleged corruption.
Dozens of DA supporters gathered at Zoo Lake despite the rain to lead a march to the Gupta home in Saxonwold where the DA alleges corruption is taking place.
The protest follows the erection of a monument in honour of President Jacob Zuma on 4 October. The monument, erected at the Groot Marico Heritage Site in the Free State, pays tribute to Zuma and other Umkhonto weSizwe recruits who were arrested in 1963.
During the march, Mmusi Maimane, the leader of the DA, said he believed that Zuma’s actual capture site was the Saxonwold home owned by the Gupta family.
“A few of us will be going there to put up signs that say this is a place of capture. We want those who are corrupt to be arrested so that we can move on to a South Africa for all of us,” said Maimane.
“We are here to say rather than the ANC constructing a monument for Jacob Zuma in the North West called the Capture Site, this is, in fact, the real capture site.”
The morning was filled with singing and dancing by DA supporters, followed by speeches by Maimane and Phumzile van Damme, the national spokesperson for the party.

Following Maimane’s speech, he led the march to the Gupta home with his supporters holding up a banner declaring Saxonwold as the capture site of President Jacob Zuma. Placards with the ANC’s flag and the words ‘Zuma’s Capture Site’ were also put up outside the house.
“We are simply here to demand a few things: Jacob Zuma must stop opposing a judicial commission of enquiry. We want an opportunity for South Africans, whether in the public sector or the private sector to come together in a parliamentary ad hoc committee… to get to the bottom of this issue.
“We are here today to march to the Gupta house to say that we are tired of the corruption,” said Van Damme.

It will begin at Zoo Lake and may disrupt traffic. Motorists are advised to travel with caution or use alternative routes.
