Joggers warned of robbery hotspots in Parkhurst, Emmarentia and Parktown

PARKHURST – A woman was robbed of her possesions while jogging in Parkhurst.

The Parkview Police Station is warning all joggers to be vigilant following a series of incidents where joggers have been robbed of their valuables.

According to Captain Tintswalo Sibeko, the spokesperson for the Parkview Police Station, they had received another complaint from a jogger of common robbery. Sibeko said, “On 26 September at about 8.30am a woman was robbed by two males at 10th Avenue Parkhurst.”

Sibeko said that the victim was jogging when she saw a white VW car which stopped on her side of the road and two men jumped out of the car and approached her.

“The suspects started searching the victim and demanding a cellphone. While searching her they found a cellphone on her belt and they took it and fled the scene. No injuries were sustained during the robbery.”

The Parkview Police Station is appealing to residents to be careful while jogging and to leave their valuable items at home. According to Sibeko, 4th Street and 15th Steet in Parkhurst, Emmarentia Avenue, Congo Road and Niger Road in Emmarentia, as well as the corner of 7th Avenue and Jan Smuts in Parktown North are hotspots for robbery as there have been several complaints of common robbery in these areas.
