Local school excels in olympiad

JOBURG – Many of Jan Celliers' shining stars were placed in the top 30 students in Gauteng for maths and science.

 

Nineteen children from Laerskool Jan Celliers attended the South African Academy of Science and Art Olympiad for Mathematics and Science at the University of Johannesburg on 2 September.

The children, who are in grade 6 and 7, progressed to the final round after they took part in the Mathematics in Action Olympiad which was held in collaboration with the South African Teachers Union.

Janno Calitz won a cash prize for building the fastest robot car on the day.

 

Wolfgang Visser is second in Gauteng and third in the country in the prestigious science olympiad.

Many of Jan Celliers’ shining stars were placed in the top 30 students in Gauteng for maths and science.

Some students achieved fantastic results in the olympiad. Wolfgang Visser finished 2nd in Gauteng and 3rd in the country for science. Anri van der Walt and Nicholas Kruger received a special entry for Grade 6 students in the top 30 for mathematics in Gauteng and Janno Calitz won a cash prize for building the fastest robot-car on the day.
