One dead following taxi crash on Jan Smuts Avenue

WESTCLIFF – One person was killed after a taxi driver lost control of the vehicle.

One person died in a taxi accident on Jan Smuts Avenue in Westcliff on 31 July. The taxi was the only vehicle involved in the accident. The driver apparently lost control of the vehicle injuring 13 other passengers.

According to Jurgen Kotze, the general manager for Emer-G-Med’s northern office, one person was pronounced dead at the scene while two others were in a critical condition. According to Kotze, all the passengers in the taxi were adults.

“One person was taken to Charlotte Maxeke [Johannesburg Academic Hospital] while the other person was taken to Busamed [Modderfontein Private Hospital],” said Kotze.

The scene has yet to be cleared and some delays are expected.
