Northcliff Country Club experiences second fire

NORTHCLIFF – The Northcliff Country Club experienced a second fire.

The Northcliff Country Club in was recently rocked by a fire which broke out near the entrance at about 7:45 pm on 23 July.

This is the second fire to occur at the club following another fire several years ago. Operations manager of the club, Mishack Mpofu said the fire occurred in the garden area in close proximity to the building.

“The fire happened close to a wendy house, which almost caught fire as well,” said Mpofu, adding, however, that there was no destruction to the property.

“The fire was contained within a reasonable amount of time since workers were able to use irrigation pipes to contain part of the fire before the Johannesburg Emergency Services arrived on the scene.”

According to Mpofu, EMS were on the scene within 15 minutes of the fire. No injuries were reported, however, one person was treated at the scene for smoke inhalation.

“The fire started as a grass fire, but we could not determine what exactly caused the fire,” said the spokesperson for EMS, Nana Radebe.
