A former assistant water polo coach at Parktown Boys’ High School who allegedly sexually assaulted 20 school children will face at least 160 counts.
The man, who appeared in court on 19 July, was arrested in November last year when he was found on CCTV footage allegedly fondling a youngster.
A hostel master at the school came across the man, who is also an assistant boarding master, on footage in a hostel common room. The principal of the school, Kevin Stippel and the chairman of the school’s governing body, Nicholas Greyling were called in to review the footage.
“The police were contacted and the perpetrator was arrested. The school banned him from the property pending a hearing but he resigned with immediate effect,” said Greyling.
The charges against the man include grooming children for sexual activity and exposure to child pornography.
The man previously appeared in court on 11 July, however, the case was postponed as the indictment was not ready. The indictment is necessary for the case to be transferred to the High Court.

The defence told the court that it would need more time to decide how to present the case before the pre-trial hearing in September. The pre-trial hearing will take place on 8 September at the High Court.
