Spotlight on Randburg walk-in’s upkeep woes

JOBURG – A condition assessment has already begun at the Randburg Revenue Customer Service Centre in light of maintenance woes.

Although the Randburg Customer Service Centre, also knows as the walk-in centre, has welcomed recent improvements to its revenue section’s layout and queuing system, it is still in dire need of maintenance.

Ward 102 councillor David Potter, who oversaw the recent renovations, said that although both residents and employees have welcomed the recent changes, he continues to engage with the Johannesburg Property Company, who owns the building, to look at the outstanding maintenance issues. “Such matters have been escalated to the City over a number of years and are budget dependent,” he said.

Fanis Sardianos, the executive manager for client business operations at the property company, said that since the recent revamp, the maintenance issues and even the lack of parking, have become clearer.

Sardianos said that on 8 May an independent company was appointed to undertake a condition assessment by end June. The site, he said, was already been handed over on 10 May with work beginning this week.

After the assessment, recommendations will be received. This, Sardianos said, will be implemented come the new financial year beginning on 1 July.

“The emphasis is really on the structural issues, particularly the roofs. Based on a desktop assessment, the damage to the building is as a result of leakages in the roof,” he said.

Some maintenance projects will be given priority from 1 July. These, however, will still be limited to budget constraints. “Completion of the maintenance to the facility is anticipated by end September,” explained Sardianos.

The entire centre, situated on the corner of Jan Smuts Avenue and Bram Fischer Drive, houses a library, a health clinic, a section for drivers and vehicle applications, a licence renewals section, the Metro police regional office and the revenue walk-in centre.
