UPDATE: Hillbrow mass murder case referred to the High Court

JOBURG –The case of 29-year-old mass murder accused, Sabelo Ngubane, has been postponed until 22 June while investigations continue.

Following three previous postponements in the Hillbrow mass murder case, Sabelo Ngubane (29) made a scheduled appearance in the Johannesburg Regional Court on 23 May.

The case was postponed until 22 June for a decision on an indictment to be made. The court heard that post-mortem results for all five deceased have been completed, while post-mortem statements, crime scene photos and the ballistic report still remain outstanding.

Ngubane, who will probably face five charges of murder, as well as a charge of possession of unlicensed firearms and ammunition was granted legal representation after failing to secure his own attorney.

City Buzz reported previously that the matter will most probably be referred to the High Court given the severity of the offences committed.

The court heard that a provisional decision had been made for the matter to be heard in the High Court and that the docket will be handed over to the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) for an advocate to be assigned to the case.

Ngubane was remanded in custody at the Joburg Central Prison (Sun City) pending his next court appearance on 22 June.
