Police urge victims of smash-and-grabs to report the incident

ROSEBANK – Motorists are urged to be vigilant while stopped at traffic lights and report any smash-and-grab incidents.

Captain Richard Munyayi, spokesperson for the Jeppe Police Station has pleaded with motorists to be more vigilant when stopped at traffic lights.

He has asked anyone who may have been a victim of a smash-and-grab to report the incident to the police.

Munyayi told the Rosebank Killarney Gazette that there have been quite a few cases of smash-and-grabs reported on Jan Smuts Avenue in Rosebank.

Munyayi said the suspects would either throw something at a window to give the driver a fright or would point a firearm at the driver while stopped at a traffic light. He said mostly women were victims as they often kept their handbags at their feet. He also noted that if the suspects did not see anything in the car they would instruct the driver to open the boot.

He also asked motorists to report anyone who had been spending a prolonged amount of time at a traffic light to a police station.
