UPDATE: Two suspects nabbed in basement parking in Killarney

KILLARNEY - Upon investigation, it is discovered that one of the suspects was out on parole for a case a robbery.

 

Two suspects who allegedly stole a vehicle from a car dealership in the south of Johannesburg have been arrested.

According to Sergeant Mduduzi Zondo, spokesperson for Hillbrow Police Station, the two suspects pretended to be interested in purchasing a car at the dealership and then allegedly took the keys from the sales person and made off with a Audi A4.

The salesman had the keys to the vehicle in order to showcase potential buyers the vehicle.

Zondo said, “The suspects [After allegedly stealing the vehicle] proceeded to Killarney Mall and parked the car in the basement parking. The police helicopter was then alerted and the suspects were approached by officers from the Johannesburg North Trio Cluster. Upon seeing the officers, the duo made a run for it and abandoned the car in the parking lot.”

Police gave chase on foot and were able to apprehend the suspects successfully.

Upon investigation, Zondo explained that one of the suspects was out on parole for a case a robbery.

Two unlicensed firearms, as well as a car jamming device, were found in the suspects’ possession. The suspects are believed to be in their late 30s and will appear in Johannesburg Magistrates’ Court on 27 May for a formal bail hearing.

“Police are currently investigating if the two unlicensed firearms were used in committing any other crimes. We are awaiting the ballistic results to determine this,” concluded Zondo.
