R1 million counterfeit sneakers ceased in Joburg CBD bust

JOBURG – Counterfeit sneakers worth a street value of approximately R1 million rand ceased in Joburg CBD by Metro Police on 4 May.

Proactive policing on the part of Metro police officers resulted in 12 big parcels of knock-off big-name brands being discovered and subsequently seized in the early hours of this morning.

“Acting on a tip-off, officers and clothing brand representatives made the discovery of the sneakers, made up of well-known brands such as Nike, Adidas, and Converse with a street value of approximately R1 million being off-loaded from a taxi at the corner of Delvers and Reaana Moosa streets in the Joburg CBD,” Metro police spokesperson, Wayne Minnaar said.

DISPATCH: The counterfeit sneakers will be stored in a Midrand warehouse pending criminal investigations.

“No arrests have been made as yet, however, the takkies were confiscated and will be stored at a warehouse in Midrand pending the criminal investigation and will then be destroyed,” Minnaar added.
