Motorists respond to taxis’ reckless driving in Craighall Park

CRAIGHALL PARK – Motorists have recently responded to reports in the Rosebank Killarney Gazette regarding reckless taxi drivers that continue to frustrate many.

Motorists have responded to recent reports published in the Rosebank Killarney Gazette concerning taxi drivers allegedly driving recklessly in Craighall Park and endangering lives.

“They fly down the wrong side of the road and then cut in front of cars at the traffic light,” said motorist, Claudia Eicker-Harris. “One day there’s going to be a major accident or a terrible road rage incident.”

Many intersections in Craighall Park and surrounding areas along Jan Smuts Avenue are heavily affected by the careless driving behaviour of taxi drivers. This persistent issue continues to frustrate everyday motorists as the taxis ignore life-saving rules of the road.

“I take the Oxford Road section from Rosebank to Illovo every day and the middle section, which was beautifully restored for the world cup with nice plants and flowers, is now a total mess because of taxis driving onto it and parking,” said motorist, Christian Bultel.” On Corlett Drive, taxis are now parking on the wide pavement even obstructing access to many businesses in that section.”

Motorists are becoming increasingly aggravated by the lack of action against the growing problem, which now, it seems, has alarmingly become the norm for everyday driving.

“This is a citywide issue and these images [photos of reckless driving] have been sent to the relevant authorities, with no perceived action,” said motorist, Nick Human. “Unless there is a significant move on a political level, the shocking situation will only grow every year.”
