Lower Houghton is done with shabbiness

HOUGHTON – The LHRA has started a campaign to keep the suburb clean.

The Lower Houghton Residents Association (LHRA) has started a new clean-up campaign to ensure that the suburb is free from litter.

According to the administrator for the association, Nikki Burghin, the association will look after about 35km of pavements and road verges in the suburb.

“This is no small undertaking and the LHRA appeals to residents of Houghton to take action this year and to maintain the high standards that we have set for our suburb,” said Burghin in a statement.

“Residents and businesses in Houghton are encouraged to tidy their own section of pavement by clearing litter, cutting the grass and keeping the storm water drains clear.”

Burghin also raised concerns saying that the campaign was likely to run out of funds this year, therefore, help from residents was urgently needed. “Apart from financial donations, we need wheelbarrows, fuel, spades, heavy duty bags and an industrial brush cutter.”

Details: Residents who wish to become members of the association can contact Burghin on 011 380 3000 or email to lhra@premiermerchant.co.za. For more information log on to www.houghtonresidents.com and for current updates, you can follow I Love Houghton on Facebook.
