The Children’s Cancer Foundation South Africa (CHOC) recently hosted its annual Christmas party for children living with cancer at the CHOC house in Saxonwold.

The celebration was attended by The Cows, a group of individuals who raise funds for children and families affected by cancer. Richard Laskey, a committee member of The Cows who lost his wife six years ago to cancer, said the day was all about the children and that it was always a privilege for The Cows to spend a little time with them.

“It’s been a long time since we have been at a function with all of the kids. So this reinforces the whole idea of why we do what we do,” he said, adding that the group raised funds to ensure a better life for the affected children and to allow them to have a bit of fun as well.
Members of The Cows came in their numbers to be part of the celebrations.
“Since November 2008 up until now, we have managed to raise more than R26 million. We started with six members and now we have well over a 1 000, and about 200 riders participated in the 2016 947 Cycle Challenge.”

Linda Moore, CHOC’s regional manager said, “The parties are an opportunity for the children, their parents and siblings to have a day of fun and laughter and get spoilt for a day.”
