Successful arrests by Johannesburg East Cluster

JOBURG – Johannesburg East Cluster make 109 arrests in a week.

The Johannesburg East Cluster arrested 109 suspects from 10 to 17 October.

“The suspects were arrested for committing crimes ranging from murder, attempted murder, armed robbery and rape,” said Captain Richard Munyayi of Jeppe Police Station. The cluster is made up of seven police stations including Cleveland, Jeppe, Hillbrow, Rosebank, Parkview, Norwood and Yeoville.

The suspects were arrested for the following:

  • 8 suspects for armed robbery
  • 12 suspects for common assault
  • 8 suspects for assault with intent to cause grievous bodily harm
  • 19 suspects for theft
  • 2 suspects for shoplifting
  • 12 suspects for possession of drugs
  • 6 suspects for malicious damage to property
  • 1 suspect for business break-in and theft
  • 2 suspects for theft out of motor vehicle
  • 2 suspects for theft of motor vehicle
  • 6 suspects for fraud
  • 3 suspects for possession of suspected stolen goods
  • 1 suspect for housebreaking and theft
  • 4 suspects for reckless driving
  • 1 suspect for rape
  • 1 suspect for murder
  • 1 suspect for attempted murder
  • 1 suspect for possession of a hijacked motor vehicle
  • 6 suspects for driving under the influence of liquor
  • 9 suspects for being illegal immigrants
  • 1 suspect for kidnapping and assault with intent to cause grievous bodily harm
  • 1 suspect for intimidation
  • 1 suspect for arson
  • 1 suspect for interference with police duties.

The accused have appeared in different courts such as Hillbrow, Jeppe and Johannesburg. Some have paid their fines while others are out on bail. Others remain in prison while police investigations are continuing.
