Guards react chop chop

ROSEBANK – Police apprehend one suspect for armed business robbery, two still at large.

Two suspects are sought by the police for an armed business robbery committed in the Rosebank precinct on the night of 30 August.

According to Rosebank police, three armed men entered a Chinese restaurant on the corner of Baker Street and Oxford Road. The manager of the business was in the process of paying the staff when suspects gained entry and demanded cash.

Bongi Mdletshe, Rosebank Police Station spokesperson, said a private security company responded to an alert and when they arrived on the scene shots were fired. “The security officers shot at the suspects who tried to flee. One was successful while the other sustained gunshot wounds which slowed him down.

“The wounded man was apprehended down Oxford Road close to the Hyatt Regency Johannesburg Hotel.”

Police were under the impression that the third man had also managed to flee the scene until the morning of 1 September when the business staff returned to the restaurant and were surprised by an unknown man, suspected to have spent the night inside the restaurant, who fled when the doors were opened.

“An undisclosed amount of cash, cellphones and a laptop were stolen by the suspects and a case of business robbery has been opened,” confirmed Mdletshe.

“Two suspects are still at large and the third, who was apprehended, is under police guard in hospital.”
