DSJ pupil excels at Francophonie Competition

PARKTOWN – DSJ pupil outshines them all.

Elizabeth McQuarrie from the Deutsche Internationale Schule Johannesburg won the Grade 8 category in the recent national Francophonie Competition.

The nationwide competition organised by the French Embassy in cooperation with the French Institute of South Africa and the Standard Bank Gallery was open to all French pupils from Grade 8 to 12 and right up to masters students of French at university level. Each category has different requirements and different prizes.

Pupils and students who are over 18 years of age also had the opportunity of winning a trip to France.

The theme this year was based on the art of the great French painter Henri Matisse whose works are currently on display at the Standard Bank Gallery in Johannesburg.

McQuarrie was inspired by Matisse’s paper cut-outs technique and by his ideas on art.

The DSJ pupil won a tablet and a selection of French books.
