Camporee at Nan Hua Temple

BRONKHORSTSPRUIT – A group of Scouts was invited to an international camporee (local gathering of Scouting units) at the Nan Hua Temple in Cultura Park in Bronkhorstspruit.

A group of scouts from a German Scouting group in Parktown joined a group of Nan Hua Scouts and Taiwan Scouts, who flew in from Taiwan for the two-day camp.

More than a 100 eager Scouts were greeted by the Abbot of the temple, Hui Feng, whose invitation was appreciated by all those who attended.

Du Mann Ying, who does the public relations for Nan Hua Temple said, “The temple’s purpose is to let the young children and teenagers from neighbouring villages have fun and learn life knowledge and skills.”

The aim of the camporee was to encourage the Scouts to build international friendships and learn about different cultures and faiths across the globe. A number of Scout activities were performed, games played and gifts exchanged after the children indulged in healthy vegetarian treats and camped out in tents on the grounds of the temple.

“Each Scout learned a lot from this camporee. Not only by exchanging different experiences regarding knowledge and skills, they also learned the ethics of ‘big family’ which means love one another, treat other people’s interest as important as one’s own,” said Ying.

“They learned about different cultures and races, respect for both people and matters, and how to get along peacefully and harmoniously in this global village. The true boy Scout’s spirit.”

The Scouts were also treated to a personal tour of the grounds, kitchen, museum and one of the three main shrines on the property.
