Community member flags down TRT member, suspect arrested

CRAIGHALL PARK - Swift reaction by a TRT member leads to an arrest of a theft out of motor vehicle suspect.

At around 2pm on 19 November in Craighall Park, a Hillbrow Tactical Response Team (TRT) member was on his way to work when he was flagged down by a community member who had witnessed a suspect breaking into a vehicle.

According to Sergeant Llyod Ramovha, spokesperson of Parkview police, the community member had witnessed a suspect allegedly breaking into a vehicle which had been parked along the intersection of Jan Smuts and St-Albans avenues.

“The 37-year-old suspect was then pursued and apprehended a short distance from the scene. He had in his possession electronic goods which included a laptop, a musical keyboard and various other items,” explained Ramovha.

The suspect has been charged with malicious damage to property, theft out of a motor vehicle as well as possession of suspected stolen property. He will appear in Hillbrow Magistrates’ Court soon.
