Craighall Park Bowling Club re-launches

CRAIGHALL PARK - The bowling club is now open to the community with a variety of sport on offer.

The sun was out and the smell of boerewors filled the air at the re-launch of the Craighall Park Bowling Club. The club had undergone a revamp and the Craighall Park community was invited to share in the joy of sports and fitness.

Andrew Els, the manager of the club and owner of Els Karate, said the day was all about the community coming together to enjoy something which was put in place for their benefit.

Els, who also had a hand in renovating the club added, “I also want to add that what we have done as a karate club for the community via the sports club is an absolute pleasure. Also, I would like to thank the Craighall Residents’ Association and Johannesburg Bowls association for allowing us the opportunity.”

Mandy Stevenson, who is in charge of the pilates programme at the club said, “More and more community members will get to know each other through the club and their time here,” she said.

While the launch was the attraction of the day, the country market also brought in some customers and traders. Pony rides, sporting activities and challenges, and socialising were on offer.

“I think the turnout today was good in terms of the sports launch, however, we urge more people to support the traders at the market or set up their own stall,” said Paulette Malcolm, a member of the Craighall Residents’ Association, in reference to members wishing to set up a stall at the club on Saturdays.

Sports on offer at the club include karate, tennis, ballet, modern and tap dancing, little kicker classes, pilates, bowls, a soccer clinic for boys and girls, and children’s engineering workshops.
