New station commander for Parkview police

PARKVIEW - The new Parkview police station commander is all about community togetherness.

Parkview police recently welcomed their new station commander Colonel Thembelule Kubone, and she is all about creating community togetherness through her open-door policy.

“I have always been a people’s person, even when I was in school. That is why I want to have that relationship with the community. If they have something that

they need, they can come to me at any time, or call me,” said Kubone.

Kubone was transferred from Alberton to Parkview Police Station. She started her career in the police service about 25 years ago in the Johannesburg CBD.

Her passion for the service started when she was in school in KwaZulu-Natal. “The Saps came to our school to conduct presentations, and I thought ‘that is where I want to be’. Even though I wanted to be an engineer initially, I thought the police service would suit me better. After my schooling, I moved to Johannesburg to pursue my passion,” she said.

When asked about what she enjoys most about her job, she said, ” I love seeing people get justice and knowing I helped make that happen. I grew up seeing lots of suffering and I remember thinking that there must be a way to make a difference – now I know I can make that difference. That is why I have this continuous hunger to assist the community as much as I can.”

She relates her personal qualities to four types of animals: A lion because it is strict, strong and brave. A butterfly because of its bright colours and it is always visible and brings joy. She said she also has monkey characteristics because she is willing to climb over obstacles to get the job done. And lastly, she said she is like a rabbit as she is clever and, just like a rabbit, is small with many tricks to get around.
