Smash-and-grab suspect caught in Milpark

MILPARK – Once again, Parkview police have urged members of the public to remain vigilant and ensure that valuables are out of sight at all times.

This after a man was arrested for a smash-and-grab incident along Barry Hertzog Avenue, Milpark, on 12 May.

The victim of the smash-and-grab incident Chiron Loubser said, “I have no idea what happened, it happened so fast.”

Loubser explained that she was waiting for the traffic light to change when a man smashed her window and grabbed her bag.

Witness to the incident, Jenny Scott said, “I have seen so many, it happens every two weeks and it has been going on for about two years. Yesterday, they were caught, but two weeks later they will be back.”

“I was in the left lane and the victim was in the right, he [suspect] walked past the [the victim’s] passenger window then smashed it.”

Loubser said after the incident occurred, she pulled over to the side of the road where she was assisted by two women who had seen the incident occur.

She was also approached by two police officers who had witnessed the incident. They said the saw three men running towards a stationary red VW Golf and one of the men was holding a woman’s handbag.

The police managed to stop the vehicle and the two suspects who were seated in the back of the vehicle managed to flee the scene. The other suspect was arrested for being in possession of stolen property.

His two accomplices are still at large.

The victim of the smash-and-grab incident was later given back her belongings.

The suspect will appear at Hillbrow Magistrates’ Court to face charges of theft out of motor vehicle and possession of suspected stolen property.
