Parkview residents receive a healthy treat

PARKVIEW- The George Hay Park can now officially be labelled an outdoor gym and park, thanks to a generous upgrade by The Discovery 702 Walk the Talk.

Speaking at the handover held at the park on 27 February, 702 station manager Pheladi Gwangwa thanked Parkview residents for their hospitality every year.

“Parkview residents have allowed us to walk through their neighbourhood and even block certain roads, so this is a token of appreciation,” she said.

“We go out of our way to prevent our walkers from trampling verges, and put massive resources into clearing the areas immediately after the walk so that the  plastic sachets and other litter are cleared on the same day as the Walk,” Gwangwa added on.

Rowles said the gym was in line with Discovery’s philosophy of making people healthier and 702’s focus on building bridges between people and strengthening communities.

Speaking on behalf of the residents, Steve Lenaham, chairman of the Parkview Residents’ Association, explained that the contribution fitted in well with the community, “The park is the centre of Parkview and is not just for Parkview residents, but for the whole of Gauteng,” he explained.

“It’s great that the park is used by everyone in the community – from workers in the area to residents,” he said.
