Hyde Park pupil a swimming champ in the making

HYDE PARK - Hyde Park High pupil Cesare Favini did exceptionally well at the recent Midmar open water swimming competition.

The Grade 12 pupil finished 27th from a total of 1248 men in the 13 to 30-year age category. In addition, the Grade 12 pupil completed the Midmar Mile 2015 in a time of 20.02 minutes finishing three minutes behind the first place winner.

“This is an outstanding achievement for a 17-year-old competing against swimmers of up to 30 years of age,” said Avril Wright, the school’s communications secretary.

According to Wright, Favini is ranked level three in breaststroke with the Central Gauteng Aquatics which allows him to compete nationally.

Favini was invited to a Central Gauteng Aquatics (CGA) training clinic for possible Junior Olympic selection last year.

He is a committed swimmer who has represented Hyde Park at all the inter-school galas.

“The rising star was recently awarded the Senior Victor Ludorum at the Inter-house gala held on 20 January and was commended by the headmaster, Manolis Vogiatzis, on his swimming achievements,” explained Wright.

Favini’s goal is to swim the English Channel in 2016.
